It’s Official: Video Games Part of French Culture
French Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres has inducted three game designers into the prestigious Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Literature), following on a new law signed earlier this month that provides generous tax breaks for video games made on French soil. The Collaborative User Experience (CUE) Research group at IBM has created a series of diagrams that visually illustrate world languages. The network diagram of the Indo-European language tree graphically illustrates the roots of various Indo-European languages; it’s fun to play with the diagram and plot the connections. (Read the comments, however, not everyone agrees that it’s an accurate representation.
The bubble diagram of world languages by number of conversational speakers might have you learning to say “hello” in languages such as Marathi and Telugu.
